Care Guide
Keep Your Meter in Top Condition.
A well-maintained probe will last for years. These are simple tools, and they ask very little of you—just a bit of attention after each use.
After Each Use
- Remove the probe from soil immediately after reading. Do not leave it in for more than a few minutes.
- Wipe the probe clean with a dry cloth or paper towel. Remove any soil residue from the metal surface.
- If the probe has contacted fertilized or treated soil, wipe it with a lightly damp cloth, then thoroughly dry before storing.
Storage
- Store your meter dry, away from direct sunlight and humidity.
- If your meter came with a protective sleeve, use it. It will protect the probe tip from bending and the dial face from scratches.
- Do not store in a humid shed, greenhouse, or bathroom cabinet.
Calibration
Our meters are factory-calibrated and covered by a lifetime calibration guarantee. If you notice the needle sticking, reading inconsistently, or not returning to zero, contact us and we’ll make it right.
To test your meter at home: insert the probe into a glass of water. The reading should rise to 9 or 10 within a few seconds. If it does not reach at least 8, your probe may need cleaning or recalibration.
What to Avoid
- Do not submerge the meter body (dial housing) in water.
- Do not use the probe in frozen or completely bone-dry soil—it can stress the sensor.
- Do not bend or force the probe. If it meets resistance in the soil, remove it and try at a different angle.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool on the probe surface.
